DMC Mining (UK) Limited: North Yorkshire Polyhalite Project

Responsible for the project controls management for the shaft sinking contractor, DMC Mining (UK) Limited on the North Yorkshire Polyhalite Project.  A three-shaft sinking programme for Anglo American at the Woodsmith and Lockwood Beck Mines near Whitby, North Yorkshire.  Total budget value for the project exceeded £600million.

Initially brought on to the team to assess the planning, cost, commercial and contractual aspects of the project and provide solutions following a gap analysis.  The work required was so extensive that we were asked to remain to further develop the project controls remit that was extended to risk management, document control and data management.   We participated in the selection of the Company cost management system (Ares Prism G2) and developed the system to interface with the Clients systems.  We worked extensively with the planning team and recruited the planners for two of the shafts as well as establishing an integrated project plan with the Lead Planner.  We compiled an extensive assessment of the shaft sinking philosophy working with industry experts and shaft sinking experts from the parent company in Canada reporting to the Project Director and the DMC board of Directors.
